If you’ve ever seriously looked into buying a Goldendoodle puppy before, you’ve probably come across the term “F1b”. You may know that F1b Goldendoodles are in high demand, but you might not know exactly what F1b means or refers to. So what is an F1b Goldendoodle, anyway? Here’s a look at what F1b means, and why everyone wants F1b Goldendoodles!

What does F1b mean?

Goldendoodles are a designer dog breed with Poodle and Golden Retriever lineage. There are different types of Goldendoodle, which are categorized by their generation. Each Goldendoodle generation has a different generation number: F1, F1b, F2, F2b, or multi generational.

F1 refers to the very first generation of Goldendoodle puppies. These puppies have a Poodle parent and a Golden Retriever parent.

F1b is a first generation backcross, or simply backcross, Goldendoodle.

What is an F1b Goldendoodle puppy?

Backcross refers to the process of crossing a hybrid type with its parent type. For Goldendoodles this means breeding a first generation Goldendoodle with a Poodle.

This means that an F1b puppy has a first generation (F1) Goldendoodle parent and a Poodle parent. So an F1b puppy is roughly 75% Poodle and 25% Golden Retriever.

What’s so special about F1b puppies?

There’s a good reason why everyone wants an F1b puppy. Each Goldendoodle generation has slightly different characteristics. For example, any Goldendoodle can inherit the Poodle’s non-shedding trait, but it’s more predictable with F1b puppies. Most first generation backcross Goldendoodle puppies will have non-shedding to very low shedding coats.

F1b puppies are ideal for people with mild pet allergies, or anyone who is tired of picking dog fur off their clothing on the way to work.

Like all Goldendoodles, F1b Goldendoodles are smart, loving, loyal, friendly, and adorable!
