Ways to Improve Your Dog’s Health

Making sure that your dog stays healthy is the best way to ensure that your Goldendoodle lives her longest and happiest life. Some of the things that you must do keep your dog happy and healthy aren’t as obvious as others. Here are a few things that you can do to improve your dog’s health.

Vaccinations

Keep up with your dog’s vaccination schedule to make sure that she stays protected from diseases and illnesses such as Lyme disease and rabies.

Exercise

Your dog needs exercise every day to maintain a normal weight, stay strong, and stay healthy. Go for walks to familiarize your dog with your neighborhood, and visit parks and dog parks to socialize your dog.

Water

Your dog should always have access to clean water. Occasionally wash your dog’s water bowl to remove germs, mold, and bacteria.

Nutrition

Find a nutrient-rich dog food and feed your dog proper portion sizes to help promote a healthy weight. Avoid feeding your pet from the table, some human foods are dangerous for dogs. This can also prevent begging.

Training

Basic obedience training can help improve your dog’s health. Dogs that go through training are less likely to have behavioral problems and anxiety that can negatively affect your dog’s mental health. Teaching your dog to “heel” or “come” can also keep them safe from accident or injury.

Socializing

Teaching your dog how to interact with new people and other animals can improve their mental and emotional health. It can also help avoid embarrassing moments while on walks and when entertaining guests.

Leash

Many communities have leash laws, but it’s a good idea to keep your dog on a leash whenever walking your dog or taking your dog in public even when there are no such laws in place. Keeping your dog on a leash can keep her from getting lost in unfamiliar places, getting hit by a car, and it can protect your dog from other animals.

Grooming

Keep your dog’s nails trimmed and brush her coat to remove mats, knots, and tangles. Bathe your dog regularly, but not too frequently as this can dry out her skin. You may have to occasionally trim your Godlendoodle’s coat.

Parasites

Check for fleas and ticks, as parasite can transmit harmful diseases. Talk to your dog’s vet about medication to prevent parasites.

Shelter

Your pet needs a safe, comfortable place that she can call her own. Indoor dogs may prefer a kennel or dog bad. Outdoor dogs should have a place where they can stay that is warm and dry in cold weather and cool and shady in hot weather.

Identification

A microchip and identification tags on your dog’s collar helps make sure that your dog finds her way home if she gets lost.
