Moving with Your Goldendoodle

Moving can be fun and exciting for you and your family. Maybe you got a new job that requires you to move to an entirely different state, or maybe you just want to move to a quaint and convenient neighborhood across town. Moving means changes and new experiences. Of course, moving can also be a stressful process.

Moving isn’t just stressful for you; it can be stressful for your dog, too. Here are a few things to think about when moving with your Goldendoodle.

Getting your Goldendoodle adjusted

Familiarize your pet with her new home. Take your Goldendoodle on a grand tour, and teach her where she can and can’t go. Don’t wash dog beds or blankets. Having the familiar smell will help your Goldendoodle feel at home.

Set up your Goldendoodle’s area

It will take a while before you have all of your boxes unpacked and all of the rooms set up. It won’t take much time to set up your Goldendoodle’s space, however, and it will help her adjust to your new home more quickly.Explore the new neighborhood

Go on plenty of walks so your Goldendoodle becomes familiar with the new neighborhood. Gradually take different routes and explore. This will help you get familiar with the new neighborhood as well!

Chips and tags

If your dog runs off, she might not be able to find her way back to her new home. Make sure your Goldendoodle has a microchip, if she doesn’t already have one, and make sure your new address and phone number are printed on her tag.

Look for dog-friendly places

Find nearby dog parks, walking parks, and greenspaces. Look for coffee shops and businesses that are dog-friendly.

Inspect the yard

Do a thorough check of the front and back yards and look for anything that could be hazardous to your dog. Check the fence for any holes or loose boards, or consider building a fence if there isn’t one already.

Learn the rules

Maybe your town is lax about dogs, but this might not be the case in your new town. Are there leash laws? Some cities don’t allow certain dog breeds, but Goldendoodles are welcome everywhere!

Find a vet

You don’t want to wait until you’re panicking because you have an emergency to find a vet for your pet. Do research and find a veterinarian that’s a good fit for you and your Goldendoodle.
