Is a Cavapoo the Dog for You?

What’s a Cavapoo? This designer dog is a cross between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. They are also called cavoodles or cavadoodles.

The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is known for its sweet expression, gentle temperament, and silky coat. The Poodle is known for its intelligence, energy, and low-allergen coat.

The Cavapoo brings the best of both breeds, combining the character of Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and Poodle to make a friendly, affectionate family dog with little shedding.

How big is a Cavapoo?

Cavapoos are small dogs. They weigh 10 to 25 pounds and stand 10 to 14 inches tall. A cross between a miniature poodle and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, which is a miniature spaniel, the Cavapoo is a good size for a small space and makes a good lap dog.

However, they are healthy, sturdy, and long-lived, like poodles. They make good family dogs, being sociable and good with children.

They’re already one of the most popular Doodle dogs in Australia, and are quickly becoming more popular in the United States. Right now, they will catch people’s attention when you take them out — not only because they are uncommon, but also because they are just so darned cute!

What kind of home does this dog need?

Cavadoodles don’t like to be alone. They like to snuggle with their owners and are fiercely loyal (but never fierce!). This is not a good choice of dog for you if you do not spend much time at home or don’t care fort an affectionate dog.

However, they don’t require a lot of exercise and can be happy with a family that isn’t especially active.

They do need some grooming. Brushing once a week, a trim a few times a year, and regular clipping of the toenails keep this dog handsome and happy.

What colors are Cavapoos?

Traditional Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are black and tan, chestnut (red or apricot), or black. Poodles come in a wider range of colors. Your Cavadoodle dog gets 50% of its genes from a Poodle and 50% from a Spaniel, so it can have many different colors. These dogs may also be parti-colored or spotted. They can even be tricolored, with three different colors.

They’re always cute.
