Goldendoodle Travels, Part 2: Goldendoodle Road Trip

You’ve decided to take your Goldendoodle with you on your holiday road trip? Goldendoodles love to hang out with you and have fun, and they shed very little if at all, so a Goldendoodle is the perfect dog to bring with you on your travels. Here are some tips to make your Goldendoodle road trip perfect!

Be prepared.

Use a car trunk or back seat organizer to corral all the important gear your dog will need. Don’t forget safety restraints and a comfy place to sleep! Here’s a list to consider:

  • doggie bed or doggie seatbelt
  • safety-certified dog crate
  • leash or harness
  • blankets, pillows, or other comfort items
  • toys
  • snacks
  • water bowl
  • poop collection bags
  • disposable cleaning wipes

Plan a route with a few good stops along the way. Chances are, you’ll be able to find a park or rest area along your route, but planning ahead makes it easier. When we head North from Arkansas, we know there’s a gas station in Southern Missouri that has a dog park. We make sure to plan to fill up the tank there and give our furry friends a chance for a good run.

Planning ahead helps you find good places for yourself and your dog, and you can time your stops well, too. Plan to stop for 20 minutes every few hours to keep everyone healthy and happy.

Get your dog prepared.

Is it time (or past time) for a visit to the vet? Make sure your dog is in good health before you get started.

It’s also a good plan to do a little practice with anything that might be unfamiliar. For example, if you’re taking your country dog to the city, try to take walks in a populated area with nearby traffic. Adding these stimuli into the daily routine make it less likely that your pup will freak out over traffic.

And of course, if your dog isn’t used to being in a car, get a little practice before you go.

At Platinum Goldies, we hand raise our Goldendoodle and Labradoodle puppies to make sure they’re well-rounded individuals before we send them to their forever homes. But it’s always a good plan to help your dog get accustomed to new things gradually.

Have fun!

Once you’re prepared, just have fun and take lots of pictures! Goldendoodles are excellent companions, and a Goldendoodle road trip is bound to make you smile.
