Finding the Perfect Goldendoodle Size

Whether you’re looking for a petite companion or a gentle giant, there is a Goldendoodle that is perfect for you! At Platinum Goldendoodles, we want to make sure you’re making an informed decision before bringing a puppy home. Follow along to learn which Goldendoodle size is best suited for you!

Things to Consider

Before deciding which size may be ideal for you, consider the size of your living space and the perimeter of your backyard. Your yard needs to be ready before bringing a puppy home. While you’re measuring, look out for rotting wood, gaps in your fence, or any holes your Goldendoodle can wiggle through.

So, you want a Goldendoodle, but don’t have a large yard or any at all? There are still options to make your doggie dreams come true! Check your neighborhood and surrounding area for dog parks. Check out convenient walking routes near your house to make sure you can give your dog lots of healthy exercise!

All Goldendoodles thrive when they are in the presence of their owner. They do not do well when spending long spans of time alone, especially as a puppy. Another dog can help to keep them company, but if you’re away from home for hours and hours a day, it may be time to consider a dog walker to expend all their extra energy!

The Toy Goldendoodle

Toy Goldendoodles are the smallest of the breed, weighing between 20 and 35 pounds and measuring about 15 inches high. Their smaller size is due to the mix of Golden Retriever, Poodle, and Cocker Spaniel. Platinum Goldendoodles doesn’t breed toy  Goldendoodles; all of our sires and dams are Poodles or Golden Retrievers.

The Miniature Goldendoodle

The Miniature Goldendoodle is purely Golden Retriever and Poodle, unlike the toy version that uses Cocker Spaniel to achieve the “toy” size. The Miniature Goldendoodle’s size is due to the crossing of a Golden Retriever with a Miniature Poodle. This size matures to be 35 to 50 pounds, and 16 to 20 inches tall. This goes for the males and females.

Due to their smaller stature, they are less likely to knock your children down or overpower them during playtime. Nonetheless, they are hardy enough to be great companions for any curious little ones. If you are someone who moves often, such as a military family, this size may be ideal for you, as they fit in well with any living accommodation.

All Goldendoodles need plenty of physical and mental exercise to remain happy and healthy. Games of seek and find, fetch, and agility training are all great ways to engage and bond with your Goldendoodle.

The Standard Goldendoodle

The Standard Goldendoodle is the biggest of the breed. The average weight for a male is 55 to 90 pounds, with the females being slightly smaller at 50 to 60 pounds. Both male and female Standard Goldendoodles stand around 22 inches tall. As you may have assumed, this size is achieved by pairing a Golden Retriever with a Standard Poodle.

Although they are quite large, they are still fantastic additions to any family. Their lovely temperament makes them well suited for small children and animals. The Standard Goldendoodle is better suited to a larger house; they need a bit more room to maneuver without knocking things over. This size is also better equipped to serve as an aid dog. If you’re looking for an active companion with a gentle nature, a Standard Goldendoodle may be just right for you!

Once again, Goldendoodles are active dogs that need a lot of exercise and mental stimulation. Making sure your Goldendoodle is exercised daily can help to prevent destructive and adverse behaviors. A general rule of thumb is – the bigger the dog, the more exercise they’ll require. Make sure you are well prepared to provide plenty of physical activity!

Goldendoodles are such fantastic companions and family dogs that no matter what size you choose, you’ll find happiness and joy with a Goldendoodle in your home!
