Fall Safety Tips for Your Goldendoodle

Fall is one of the best seasons for families with dogs. You won’t see anything cuter than a cuddly Goldendoodle puppy playing in a big pile of leaves. Of course, each season brings new fun and new challenges for pet owners; make sure that you’re ready for whatever comes your way with these fall safety tips for your Goldendoodle.

Protect against ticks

People tend to associate ticks with the summer, but they’re still out in the fall months, too. Fall is the best season to hike with your dog — you get cooler temperatures and beautiful foliage; just make sure that you’ve treated your hiking buddy for fleas and ticks.

Let your Doodle’s fur flow

Arkansas winters are fairly mild, but the colder it is in your region, the sooner you should stop clipping your Goldendoodle’s coat. Clipping your Doodle’s fur too short or too late in the fall means that your Doodle won’t have enough fur to stay warm when temperatures start dipping in the winter.

Start bringing your pet indoors

Maybe your dog loves spending hours outside during cool fall days. However, spending too much time outdoors in cold temperatures can put your pet at risk. Always check the forecast and make sure you bring your Doodle in when it’s cold outside, especially at night.

Watch your Goldendoodle’s holiday diet

Too many table scraps from Thanksgiving can add a few pounds to your pet’s waistline, but Halloween candy can be downright dangerous. Always keep food out of reach of your pet, and make sure you don’t get carried away with handing out treats.

Handling holiday visitors

How does your dog do with new friends and extended family? Most Doodle dogs enjoy meeting new people, but any dog can be shy or dislike new people in their domain. Make sure you have a plan for your pet if you are expecting holiday guests.

Also, keep in mind that your dog is more likely to run off with the door constantly open with people coming and going to and from your home. Make sure your Goldendoodle has a collar, identification tags, and a chip before the holidays arrive.

Keep chemicals out of reach

Many people use changing fall weather as a cue to change their coolant. Spills and dribbles are common with DIY auto maintenance, but the chemicals in coolant are toxic. Be sure to clean up spills to so your dog doesn’t lap up toxic chemicals.

Pesticides can also be a threat to your pet. Mice and rodents tend to seek shelter indoors when temperatures start to fall. If you put out poison or pesticides, keep them away from your dog, and make sure that he can’t accidentally eat them.
