People with allergies or respiratory issues are sometimes unable to live in a home with pet dander. But that doesn’t mean that people with allergies don’t love dogs! If you suffer from allergies, then a hypoallergenic dog could be the answer, and Goldendoodles are perfect dogs for people with allergies!

What is a hypoallergenic dog?

People sometimes refer to certain types of dogs – including Goldendoodles – as being hypoallergenic.

A dog that is “hypoallergenic” is less likely to cause allergic reactions than other dogs. Hypoallergenic does not mean that a dog is allergy-proof, however.

A hypoallergenic dog has a no-shed coat, or only sheds very lightly, and is more compatible with people who have allergies.

It’s important to realize, however, that there’s no such thing as a truly hypoallergenic dog. Even dogs with non-shed coats create pet dander, which causes allergic reactions.

Do Goldendoodles shed?

Goldendoodles typically do not shed, but it is possible for your Goldendoodle or Goldendoodle puppy to shed. Certain Goldendoodles are less likely to shed than others, but any Goldendoodle puppy can inherit the Poodle’s no-shed coat.

A Goldendoodle puppy with a Golden Retriever parent and a Poodle parent (F1) typically will develop low-shed or no-shed coats.

A Goldendoodle puppy with a Goldendoodle parent and a Poodle parent (F1b) usually has a higher chance of inheriting a non-shedding coat.

Goldendoodles are great dogs for people with allergies

Since Goldendoodles shed very little, if at all, they are ideal for people who suffer from mild pet allergies. Dogs with no-shed coats still produce pet dander, but not nearly as much as dogs that shed a lot.
