Choosing the right Goldendoodle for your Family

Have you been searching for a Goldendoodle, but aren’t sure which cross is right for you and your family? Choosing the right Goldendoodle for you family is essential!

Well, let the girls at Platinum Goldendoodles help you out. First off, there are many different versions of Goldendoodles, so we need to establish what exactly you are looking for.

Do you like the more shaggy coat or more of a poodle look??

Do you need a dog that is allergy friendly??

Are you worried about shedding at all??

These are just a few questions to ask your self when considering buying a Goldendoodle.

If you are going for more of the Golden Retriever “Teddy Bear” look and not so much Poodle, you need an F1 Goldendoodle. The F1 Goldendoodle is a first time cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. So, in this cross you get a good mixture of both breeds. Most f1 puppies do not get their curly coat  until they get a little older and their undercoat starts to really come in.  We like to describe this version as the “shaggy, teddy bear” Goldendoodle.

Now, if you or someone in your family suffers from allergies and you need a dog this is more hypoallergenic, then you need an F1b Goldendoodle. An F1b Goldendoodle is a dog that’s been bred back.  In other words, you take a Goldendoodle and breed it back to a Poodle. So, you get a dog that’s 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Golden Retriever. These dogs are non shedding and are the best for families with allergies. They will naturally have more of a poodle look because they have more poodle in them.

You can also get into F2’s and so forth…this is basically breeding a Goldendoodle to a Goldendoodle.
