Can You Go Running With a Goldendoodle?

If you live an active lifestyle, you want a pet that can keep up with you. Not all dogs make a good running partner, though. Pugs and Dachshunds come up a little bit short. You can definitely go running with a Goldendoodle!

Dogs need exercise too!

According to the Centers for Disease Control, adults need a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate intensity, or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic activity each week to be healthy. While the CDC doesn’t offer physical activity guidelines for dogs, any vet will tell you that exercise is just as important for your dog as it is for you.

Exercise helps your dog maintain a healthy weight, stay happy, build strong muscles, and burn off excess energy. Running is a great way to get your cardio in each week, and it’s an activity that your dog can enjoy too!

Here’s what makes it so easy to go running with a Goldendoodle.

Goldendoodles are easy to train

Goldenoodles are smart, loyal, and eager to please. These qualities make it easy to train a Goldendoodle. There are lots of distractions when you go for a run: traffic, squirrels, other dogs, and other people. You want to make sure that your dog will listen and obey to avoid any accidents.

Goldendoodles are athletic dogs that love to play

They’re an active dog breed, and they make perfect dogs for people who live an active lifestyle. Whether you’re running, hiking, or just playing at the park, Goldendoodles can keep up.

Goldendoodles are sociable dogs that get along with everyone

Some dogs don’t do well with strangers. If you’re running in public, this can be a problem. Goldendoodles, however, are great with strangers, children, and others dogs.

Things to keep in mind when running with a dog

Dogs may be natural runners, but teaching a dog to run can take some time. Be patient and start slow and gradually increase the distance.

Always start and end a run with a walk. A warm up and cool down is important for you and your dog.

Make sure he has plenty of water afterwards.

Consider your dog’s age. Puppies have loads of energy, but they’re still growing and developing. Running can cause pain and problems for young puppies. Dogs that are older may also have orthopedic issues, so be cautious about picking up running with older dogs.
